Frequently Asked Questions

Pelvic floor physiotherapy is a specialised form of physiotherapy that assesses and treats the muscles, ligaments and connective tissues that support your bladder, bowel and reproductive organs. Treatment is tailored to your symptoms and goals, helping improve function, reduce pain and restore confidence.

Pelvic floor physiotherapy can help with urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, pelvic pain, bladder and bowel dysfunction, pregnancy-related discomfort, postnatal recovery, abdominal separation (diastasis recti), and returning to exercise after childbirth.

No. You don't need a referral to book an appointment with our pelvic floor physiotherapists. However, if you're claiming through Medicare, WorkCover or another funding scheme, a referral may be required.

Your first appointment includes a detailed discussion about your symptoms, medical history and goals. Your physiotherapist will complete an assessment, which may include movement, posture and pelvic floor muscle assessment (with your consent), before creating a personalised treatment plan.

No. An internal examination is never compulsory.

Your physiotherapist will explain why an internal examination may be helpful, answer any questions you have, and ask for your informed consent before proceeding. You are always in control and can choose to decline, delay, or stop the examination at any time.

In many cases, we can still assess and treat your concerns using a detailed discussion, posture and movement assessment, breathing patterns, abdominal assessment (with or without the use of real time ultrasound), external pelvic examination through clothes, and a personalised treatment plan.

If an internal examination is appropriate and you're comfortable having one, it can provide valuable information about your pelvic floor muscle strength, coordination, tension, and any areas of discomfort. However, we'll always work at a pace that feels right for you.

Our goal is to make you feel safe, respected, and comfortable throughout your appointment.

Yes. We welcome and provide care for transgender, non-binary, and gender-diverse people in a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment.

Our physiotherapists understand that everyone's body, goals, and healthcare journey are unique. Whether you're seeking support for pelvic floor concerns, bladder or bowel symptoms, pain, pregnancy or postpartum care, post-surgical rehabilitation, or general musculoskeletal issues, we'll tailor your treatment to your individual needs.

We use inclusive, respectful language and will always ask about your name, pronouns, and preferences where appropriate. Our focus is on providing evidence-based care that helps you feel comfortable, heard, and supported.
